Becoming a Joy-filled, Happy Person at Work
There was a time when I wasn’t very positive or happy. It changed when I discovered my secret power.
There was a time when I wasn’t very positive or happy. Quite the opposite; I was aloof and unapproachable. As a young person in my early twenties and in my first job as a bank teller, I did not enjoy the work. Being afraid of coming up short had me stressed and petrified every day. It was the only job I could get back then, and it was not what I wanted to do for a living.
Remember what you wanted to be, start there, do that
My teenage dream was to be a commercial artist. So, I started a certificate course to learn how to be that. When I completed the program, they placed me as a junior sketch artist in a graphic arts firm. Technically, I performed well. I quickly learned, though, what I do is not who I am. Then I discovered my true calling: connecting with people and understanding their needs. Who I was to be was the one who saw and understood people.
Go with the flow. Every step (good and bad) is destiny
I began interacting with the firm’s customers, translating their vision into terms the talented artists could create. When I am in between people who need a job done and people who do the work, I was great at interpreting needs in a way that gets them delivered as expected. It was a a wonderful realization. When using my (super) powers of (1) winning the trust of humans on two sides of an equation and (2) translating, or rather, interpreting and communicating the ‘why’ then the ‘what,’ I thrive and am so obnoxiously happy!
Life happens when you were planning something else
I enjoyed doing this work, but not the job of an artist. What emerged as I started being a creative analyst was a natural brown sugar self who enjoyed making people happy. I felt joy at seeing remarkable results that came because of what I did and said. I suppose knowing myself and being useful was the key to unlock a cheerful way of being. This lively personality of mine was infectious, and I soon became known as the “happy” one at work that others wanted to work with and for. Hear me well — you may end up in a place that is different from where you planned to be — and you will be happier. Let go of your pre-conceived notions, listen and let it be.
Leap and the net will appear. Let go and let it be
It’s incredible how things can change when you find your true calling. If you’re unhappy with your current situation, don’t give up hope. There’s always something out there for you. You just have to find it! Who knows, maybe your true calling is right around the corner. Just keep exploring and never give up on yourself!
